Spring is in full swing, and floral shirts are great way to celebrate the season! Not only that, but they’re also incredibly versatile pieces that can be worn year-round. Styling them however can sometimes be quite tricky. In this guide we share our floral shirt style tips, so that you can wear yours with confidence.
Pair with Contrasting Textures for Effortless Cool
Leather
For decades, leather jackets have been the ultimate edgy fashion accessory. From the likes of classic Hollywood bad boys like James Dean and Marlon Brando to the punk rockers of the 50s and 60s to modern-day male style icons like Johnny Depp and Bradd Pitt, leather jackets have always exuded effortless cool. Pairing this masculine fabric with a floral print is a perfect way to offset the tone for a laid back look. You don’t have to stick to classic black either; brown leather works great with pastel coloured prints and a grey leather jacket looks awesome with white and cream.
Denim
The softness of a floral print also works really well against the toughness of denim. Like leather, the denim jacket is a classic wardrobe piece for a laid-back, cool look. Don’t be afraid to go double denim either; a floral shirt can look really stylish with a denim jacket and jeans. Try pairing with some white trainers and your favourite pair of sunglasses for the perfect spring-casual look.
For a bold look… Try Clashing Prints
Go big or go home! Clashing two loud prints may seem like a style disaster but when done right, it’s one of the easiest ways to look confident and self-assured. There are no hard and fast style rules when it comes to print clashing but if the idea is new to you, try pairing two prints that are similar in colour in size. Colour opposites can also work, but if you don’t have a natural eye for colour pairing then you may be heading into dangerous fashion territory. Whatever you do, wear your outfit with confidence - a bold outfit should only be worn with a bold attitude. Even if you don’t always get it right, your confidence will see you through those bad outfit days!
Tone Down Your Look with Layering
Floral prints can work for more subtle looks too: all you need to do is add a few extra layers to your look. If you want your shirt to blend in effortlessly with the rest of your outfit, wear it open over a casual t shirt. Add a cardigan and wear it un-tucked with some classic straight leg jeans or light coloured cotton trousers.

Rectangle
• Shoulders, hips and waist are similar width
When dressing a rectangle shape you’ll want to choose clothing that helps to define your shoulders and waist. You can do this by choosing tops with wide collars and high necks, both of which will help to broaden your chest. Wide collar shirts are best for rectangular shapes. If you need to wear a tie, tie it with a wider knot and don’t wear it too long. Tops with horizontal stripes or detail on the shoulders will help to widen them. Block colours will make your frame appear even more boxlike, so choose patterns and prints to help create definition. Layered shirts and jackets will also help to create definition. Make sure to leave jackets open and choose styles which sit more snugly around the waistline to help distinguish your midsection. For bottoms, choose slim fit and skinny fit styles. If you’re a rectangle, your body will be fairly ‘up and down’ and so choosing a trouser that tapers towards the bottom of the leg will help give you more of a shape.
